Amazon rolls out textbook rentals for Kindle with up to 80 percent off Posted: 18 Jul 2011 10:17 AM PDT Amazon to provide textbooks for Kindle on rent Amazon Kindle is the most successful eReader as per the market analysis (everybody know that!). They have thousands of books, journals, magazines and even comics for their buyers but now they have decided to release something for the studious lot. If you want to study from the best textbooks in the world but can't afford the $6000 worth Physics books then you can opt for the way out, courtesy of course, Amazon. Amazon is planning to avail several textbook rentals for their Kindle devices. The students can rent the textbooks from Amazon Store with a discount up to "80 percent" which depends upon the time for which you rent the book that ranges from 30 days to 360 days (from a minor glance at a textbook to a complete academic year). If your textbooks become trash after your academic year is over then this idea of rentals sounds a good alternative. Tens of thousands of textbooks from a number of publishers including John Wiley & Sons, Elsevier and Taylor & Francis (omg!) would be available under this offer. By the way, you can also add annotations (notes etc.) in the books which won't be removed even after your rental period is over, you can access them on the Kindle website and review them by purchasing the book again (your written notes won't be altered at all). I am not sure whether this is a sustainable model or not, reading on eReader like Amazon Kindle is awesome when you are reading a novel or a story book but for reading a textbook on Amazon Kindle just doesn't sound appropriate, it's sort of unnecessary (aren't there good libraries in town?).
